THE OWL
ISLINGTON
CONCEPT, DESIGN & BUILD
Having previously worked to produce a lightbox for the Owl barbershop's first premesis on Essex Road we were delighted to be instructed to develop their aesthetic and design and build a new shop on Islington Green.
When we began working on the designs, the proposed site was 2 separate units; both fairly compact in size, with no running water or waste, and in need of complete refurbishment.
We drew upon the monochrome palette utilised in the Essex Road premesis in a continuation of the brand's paired back and minimal aesthetic.
Extensive fitted furniture was required to ensure the compact space could function with 3 stations in full swing. Handleless doors with concrete veneer was decided upon for these so that the cupboards disappeared into the walls for an ultra sleek finish.
The choice to use a plastic worktop made from recycled yoghurt pots was as much for it's beautiful marble-like appearance as it's green credentials. It also serves as an interesting topic of conversation for when clients are sat at the stations.
Belmont chairs and sinks, as well as Anglepoise work lamps were an obvious choice of finishing kit for the shop as they are design classics in their own right.
The shop was completed with hand painted 24ct gold leaf lettering in the window arches, a bespoke lightbox and custom neon sign echoing the neighbouring signage in the surrounding area.
